About the Archbishop
Born on 19th January 1953 in Kyabakadde, Uganda, His Grace Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga rose from humble beginnings in Nagalama Parish to become one of the most influential spiritual leaders in Uganda and across Africa.
He was a man deeply grounded in theology, education, and compassion, serving both the Church and the people with unwavering devotion. From his early education at Kyabakadde Primary School to his higher studies in Rome and France, he pursued wisdom with humility and purpose.

Education & Formation
- 1958–1964: Kyabakadde Primary School
- 1965–1971: Nyenga Minor Seminary
- 1972–1974: Katigondo Major Seminary
- 1974–1978: Ggaba National Major Seminary
- 1979–1981: University of Clermont-Ferrand, France
- 1990–1994: Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome
He held degrees in Theology, Canon Law, Philosophy, French, and Rural Development, including a PhD with a thesis on “The Challenge of Mixed Marriage in the Archdiocese of Kampala.”

Priesthood & Service
- Ordained a Priest: April 9, 1978 by Cardinal Emmanuel K. Nsubuga
- Ordained Bishop: March 1, 1997 by Pope John Paul II
- Installed Archbishop of Kampala: September 30, 2006 by Pope Benedict XVI

- Welcomed Pope Francis to Uganda in 2015
A Life for the People
Archbishop Lwanga was not only a shepherd of faith but also a fierce advocate for social justice, interfaith harmony, economic empowerment, and peace.
He led with love, and spoke truth to power with grace. He saw faith not only as worship, but as action. Through projects, education, and outreach, he helped countless people access healthcare, education, livelihoods, and dignity.




His Passing
On Holy Saturday, April 3, 2021, the Archbishop passed on peacefully in his sleep. His cause of death was heart complications, but his memory lives on in every life he touched.
